Moonshadow Valley

Moonshadow Valley is considered one of the spookiest and strangest neighborhoods in The Ghostly. Some believe that immediately after The Battle of the Hollow and the gaining their freedom, the Moonshadow locals' hearts grew cold and clouded with the chilly air. But those are just rumors.

Geography & Climate

The geography of Moonshadow Valley is wide and flat. Droopy shrubs and trees decorate the landscape, along with tall circle-shaped street lamps that line the streets and sidewalks. The dull brightness from the towering street lamps illuminates the dense fog that creeps along the ground floor. Mansions decorated in blues, purples, and grays are generously-spaced and separated with short accented fencing. From above looking down, the streets of Moonshadow Valley create a continuous labyrinth with small businesses sprinkled in between.

To the far north of Moonshadow Valley is a wide space, where The Burnt Mansion separates the neighborhood and the distant mountains. To the far west, is the neighborhood's graveyard full of decaying tombstones and crooked trees. It was once a safe place to visit but had later become the favorite site for mysterious entities to call home. To the far east, is an empty patchy grassland moving towards Yolkytown. To the south of the residential boundary, lies the abandoned train tracks that once connected Moonshadow Valley and The City of Hollowleaf.

The climate of Moonshadow Valley is normally chilly and cold. The weather rarely changes and when it does, it downpours. All-year-round, thick fog creeps just above the ground floors and drags along with any little movement.

Culture & Inhabitants

Typically, the culture of Moonshadow Valley is quite pretentious and thrives on reputation. Despite encouraging the bizarre and unexplained, losing one's composture is publicly frowned upon. The locals of Moonshadow Valley pride themselves to be elegant, sophisticated, and knowledgeable. Although, when one of their own shows any sign of weakness, it is encouraged to take them out of the public eye and console them privately. Inner strength is valued just as highly as outer strength within this intimate community.

While this community loves to accessorize and dress up on a daily basis, the celebration of Hollowin is always highly anticipated. Hollowin is a joint-celebration with The City of Hollowleaf folks and hosted by Moonshadow Valley. During this week-long event, all from Moonshadow and Hollowleaf dress completely in ghoulish, menacing, and spooky attire while participating in a festive parade that trails all throughout the streets. This grand festivity celebrates the independence of Moonshadow and honors the ominous entities in Gloomcross Hills that helped aid the final victory in The Battle of the Hollow. Naturally, this is a celebration between Moonshadow Valley and The City of Hollowleaf, but all from The Ghostly come to attend and admire the various celebrational apparel and enjoy the extravagant floats.

While this is a celebration to help bridge the two polar-opposite communities together, even for just a week, there is a noticeable division between the two. The townsfolk of Hollowleaf, commonly dress in more craft-based and friendlier creatures, while the people of Moonshadow go beyond in expenses to create realistic and intimidating creatures and glamour. During this celebration, conversing and reminiscing are highly encouraged, along with partaking in Hollowin-themed cuisine.

In the past, this ceremony was solely full of long and drab speeches about the past, unity, and understanding. But thanks to the late Dr. ___, it is now encouraged to have a more active role in honoring the fallen by highlighting the importance of welcoming the extraordinary and bizarre through their costumes and the parade. Later, sweets and Hollowin-themed meals were slowly introduced.
